Resources to Download - Press Cuttings
This really is a work in progress, and at the moment represents only what is a available to hand. If any one has collections of cuttings representing aspects of the EL and Blacklisting story and would like specific PDF albums to be hosted here please get in touch
It falls into two sections
- A Historical section using newspaper archives to fill in some of the gaps un the Leagues early development
- A "Contemporary" section plotting the later history the EL and Blacklisting and comprising miscellaneous albums and specific albums.
Historical Cuttings
Over the course of the couple of years the British Newspaper Archive has made tremendous progress, not just in its coverage but in its functionality especially its search engine and is now a very valuable research tool particulaly when dealing with the day to day and local activities. There are now hundred of news stories and adverts and notices to be found relating to the Economic League in the period between the wars. What was a particularly difficult period research in the development of the radical right because of the fragmentary nature of of the largely ephemeral evidence is becoming a difficult area to research because the amount of evidence is almost overwhelming.
What a fantastic problem to have. Below is a small album of some pages I extracted fro the archive about two yeas ago.
But in looking at in the last couple of days I have found a better way of presenting the results. So the files called Newspaper Searches are cut and paste searches in word, withhyper links intact. Some of the references are irrelevant, and the OCR is as irritating as any other OCR but probably a lot better than most give the quality of the image. It also offers you a plain text OCR to cut a paste, which is also really helpful in determining relevance quickly.
